Benedikt Jónsson
Benedikt Jónsson (born Reykjavík, 25 November 1954〔("Ambassador Benedikt Jónsson" ), curriculum vitæ, Foreign Ministry of Iceland (pdf), retrieved 6 February 2015 〕) is the current Icelandic ambassador to Armenia, Belarus, Denmark, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, Malta, Portugal, Tajikistan, the United Kingdom (since 2009)〔("Jonsson, H.E. Benedikt" ), ''International Year Book and Statesmen's Who's Who'', ed. Jennifer Dilworth and Megan Stuart-Jones, Brill Online, updated December 2014.〕 and Uzbekistan,〔(List of Icelandic representatives ), Foreign Ministry of Iceland, retrieved 6 February 2015 〕 and also Permanent Secretary of State.〔 He was previously ambassador to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Turkmenistan.〔〔 He became first secretary in the foreign ministry in 1983 and subsequently served in the Icelandic embassy in Paris, as Deputy Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, as Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, as chief negotiator for EFTA with Mexico and Chile and as Chairman of the WTO Committee on Least Developed Countries.〔
